Expedia Use Gay Couples in Ads, and Twitter Explodes

The online travel giant Expedia are using pictures of gay and lesbian couples in imagery for a new competition, and some people are not happy.

 

The competition to win a “romantic getaway” to the UK is aimed at promoting LGBT tourism over this side of the pond and has been posted across Expedia’s social media accounts in recent days.

The new campaign, which uses the slogan Love is Great Britain, features gay and lesbian couples at various landmarks across the UK – both in photos and videos.

Cute, right? Sure, you can say they just want more gay business, and we’re cool with that. But some people aren’t as cool with it.

Expedia’s Twitter account received backlash from many anti-gay conservatives.

Expedia stuck to their guns however and have continued to push out the campaign despite the haters.

It’s not the first time that Expedia have supported gay rights. In 2012, the company made an advert that showed a homophobic father buying a ticket to go to his daughters wedding to another woman.
