Foo Fighters Troll Westboro Baptists With 'Rickrolling'

The Foo Fighters hit back at Westboro Baptist Church protesters who were demonstrating against the group by ‘Rickrolling’ them.

Protesters from Topeka’s infamous Westboro Baptist Church, who have clashed with the Foo Fighters before, began picketing outside the Sprint Centre in Kansas City ahead of Friday’s gig.

The band responded by blasting Rick Astley’s 1987 hit ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ from a pickup as they rode in the back brandishing signs reading ‘You got Rick roll’d (again)’ and ‘Keep it clean’. A small mob of fans joined the cheesy sing-along.

‘Rickrolling’, a once popular online prank which began in 2007, is a ‘bait and switch’ where a user is lured into clicking a link that turns out to be Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’.

In 2011 the band were picketed by the church, causing Grohl and co to spontaneously perform a “gay love song” called Keep it Clean (Hot Buns) outside the concert venue.

“I don’t care if you’re black or white or purple or green,” Grohl told the assembled crowd. “Whether you’re Pennsylvanian or Transylvanian, Lady Gaga or Lady Antebellum, it takes all kinds! Men loving women, and women loving men, and men loving men, and women loving women … God bless America!”
