LGBTQ+ community icon and author Gillian Anderson and comedy genius Hannah Einbinder have joined Jane Schoenbrun, the non-binary director of I Saw The TV Glow, for a new camp slasher horror. The title of this upcoming horror picture is Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, which was described by the director as their “best attempt at the ‘sleepover classic’”.

The film is to be produced by Plan B Entertainment, a production company founded by Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Grey which also produced Mickey 17 and Moonlight. Mubi also has its hand in this pie as they are financing the film after their multi-award-winning 2024 hit, The Substance. Mubi will also distribute the film in North America, Latin America, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Turkey, India, Australia, and New Zealand.

Schoebrun described the film as their “best attempt at the ‘sleepover classic’: an insane yet cosy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store.”

A reboot of the Camp Miasma slasher franchise, the film will follow the latest movie’s director, who becomes obsessed with the mysterious, reclusive actress who played the “final girl” in the original film.

Sex Education star Gillian Anderson will join the cast of this new horror film, working alongside Hannah Einbinder of Hacks fame, who is also known for her stand-up comedy. Speaking about the cast, Schoeburn said, “I couldn’t be more excited to be heading to sleepaway camp this summer with the mad comic genius Hannah Einbinder, the legendary Gillian Anderson, and the daring folks at Mubi and Plan B, who by greenlighting this m movie have summoned a plaque-like flood of blood, guts and various other fluids to rain down on us all.”

Fans are excited to see what the non-binary director has in store with this new project after the resounding success of I Saw The TV Glow. Famous for its distinctive visual aesthetic and emotional narrative, the psychological horror drama was lauded for its allegorical exploration of the trans experience.
