MUBI has just released the official trailer for Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma, the highly-anticipated sapphic slasher starring Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder. Bloody, sexy and outrageous, Jane Schoenbrun’s latest movie has already attracted raving reviews.

Written and directed by the director behind We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow, the film has been dubbed “a new kind of horror remake”. It follows the journey of a young director attempting to revive an old slasher film. The director, played by Einbinder, seeks out the original film’s final girl, played by Anderson.

The original star is now a reclusive actor shrouded in mystery, and when the two protagonists meet, they “fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.”

In addition to Einbinder and Anderson, the cast includes Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Quintessa Swindell, Kevin McDonald, and Jack Haven.

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year, where it received massive praise and even picked up the Queer Palm Award. Critics described it as “Schoenbrun’s refined sapphic ode to the classic slasher”.

Speaking about the film, director Schoenbrun said, “I make movies I wish existed when I was a kid.”

The director told Deadline that the upcoming film is “an insane yet cosy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store.”

In the newly released trailer, sex and blood take centre stage in a delirious journey through filmmaking. “Sex seems so easy for so many people, but I’ve never been able to get there with someone else unless I’m really far away in my head,” says the protagonist in a voiceover to blood-soaked shots.

Elsewhere in the trailer, one character says, “I’m just thinking about what it’s going to feel like.” When asked, “Losing your virginity?”, they reply: “No. Dying.”

The film is due for theatrical release in Ireland on August 21. If you cannot wait to watch it, check out the trailer below!
