Heated Rivalry fans, assemble. If you’ve been missing seeing a certain fictional hockey star on your screen, fear not, as Hudson Williams is set to play not one, but two characters in a new series, Yaga.
The eight-episode mystery thriller is based on a play by Kat Sandler, who is the writer and showrunner. Reimagining the myth of Baba Yaga, the series follows a private investigator probing the disappearance of a young fishery heir in a coastal town. While working on the case, the private investigator finds himself at odds with a local detective, a charismatic professor and a labyrinth of enigmatic suspects and ancient magic.
Viewers are told to expect themes of female rage delivered in a dark, funny and feminist way, as well as plenty of chickens (this will make sense to anyone familiar with the original Baba Yaga myth). The show also features a range of bloody, violent and erotic scenes, ideal for anyone with a horn for horror.
In terms of the Yaga cast, Hudson Williams not only plays missing person Henry Park, whom he describes as a “conceited piece of shit”, but he also plays Logan Casey, Henry’s cagey roommate. The Canadian actor appears alongside Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid, and Clark Backo, known to many for his role in Schitt’s Creek. Williams may even share some steamy scenes with more than one of his co-stars, as promotional material for the show has teased.

The series had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, before its wider release later in October. It is the first half-hour drama from Canadian streamer Crave, the home of Heated Rivalry, and was shot in Victoria, British Columbia.
Yaga will premiere on AMC+ and Crave on October 23, just in time for Halloween. It will air weekly on Fridays, with a two-part finale on November 27.
