Watch: J-Lo and Lin-Manuel Miranda Record Orlando anthem

J-Lo-Hamilton

Following the massacre of 49 people and the injuring of 50 at Pulse gay nightclub last month, Jennifer Lopez has teamed up with ‘Hamilton’ star, Lin-Manuel Miranda for a charity single

The shooting in Orlando took place on Latino night, and the dead and injured were mainly from Hispanic and Latino backgrounds. Lopez and Miranda, two of the biggest Hispanic stars in the US, are responding with a song that celebrates diversity and same-sex love, in association with the Hispanic Foundation.

Miranda, whose musical Hamilton was nominated for a record breaking 16 Tony Awards in June, read a sonnet about the massacre at the ceremony, wrote the song.

Lopez posted a clip on Twitter, saying: “Me and @Lin_Manuel working in studio on something very special…”

In the clip, Miranda sings: “What we’ve got is love even when the sinners hate us/We cannot let them diminish or intimidate us.

“We sing out, we’ve got the rhythm and the truth on our side/We cut through the divide and we do it with Pride.

“A generation of innovators enabled to patiently wait for change ’cause change is what they’ve been afraid of/malevolence can wait, raise a level of debate, celebrate, elevate.”

Lopez sings the chorus: “We’re not staying inside today/they’re not taking our pride away!”
