Cork's Krystal Queer runs 10km in drag to raise funds for Palestine

Running in the most fabulous way possible, Krystal Queer has raised almost €3,000 for aid in Gaza.

Krystal Queer has ran 10k for aid in Gaza, whilst wearing full drag

On November 23, Cork’s own Krystal Queer donned full drag and hit the pavement for a 10km run that was as bold and brilliant as it was heartfelt. The event wasn’t just a display of endurance and glitter—it was a powerful fundraiser for Gaza Go Bragh, a collective of Irish and Palestinian individuals providing life-saving aid to the people of Gaza. With every step, Krystal Queer reaffirmed the historic and transnational bonds of queer solidarity with Palestine, raising awareness and funds for those enduring unimaginable hardship.

Krystal’s route began and ended at Cork queer nightclub Wilde, formerly known as Vibe. Accompanied by her friend and mentor, Thomas—who documented the entire run on Instagram—Krystal weaved through Cork City in her unmistakable style. The night’s efforts culminated in a spectacular drag show at Wilde, featuring performances from Cork’s vibrant drag community and a raffle to boost the fundraiser. Entry fees for the event went to the venue, but Wilde pledged its own donation to Gaza Go Bragh, with all performers committing more than half of their wages to the cause.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is staggering. Over 43,000 people have been killed, more than 100,000 injured, and nearly 2 million displaced since October 7, 2023. Amid this devastation, grassroots collectives like Gaza Go Bragh are providing crucial support: tents, drinking water, cash assistance, and evacuation aid for civilians.

For Krystal Queer, this run wasn’t just about raising funds; it was personal. A year ago, she started running with Thomas, who encouraged and supported her growth as both a runner and a person. Thomas, a seasoned activist for Palestinian rights, inspired Krystal to channel her passion into action. Together, they turned a simple idea—a drag queen running through Cork—into a resounding call for justice.

Krystal Queer’s fundraiser for Palestine was a massive success. Beginning at Wilde, she ran laps around the city, past Marina Market, and back to the cheering embrace of her community. The event has raised nearly €3,000, made up of €2,300 in online donations, plus a €400 donation coming from Krystal & The Queers. The donation from Wilde is yet to be added. Reflecting on her success she told GCN: “I am very lucky to have the utmost support and love from my community here in Cork. I’ll forever be grateful to them and I’m blessed that they raised almost €3,000 for such an important cause.”
