Kylie Minogue has been announced as a headline act for the closing ceremony of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Hampden Park on August 3.
The event, set to begin at 9pm, is expected to draw an audience of 40,000 people and will be broadcast on BBC One and shown in 71 countries and territories.
Kylie is currently in preparations for her Kiss Me Once tour, which begins next month in support of her 12th studio album released earlier this year. The singer posted a shot on her Instagram yesterday in the studio of Jean Paul Gaultier, suggesting he will design costumes for the tour.
While Kylie’s performance will represent the Commonwealth Games’ move to her home country of Australia in 2018, elsewhere the line-up is Scottish-heavy, with other acts performing on the night including Lulu, Deacon Blue, Prides and Dougie MacLean.
Speaking about the ceremony, Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg said, “We are delighted to reveal the glittering line-up of Scottish and international talent joining us in Hampden Park for the closing ceremony. There is so much for so many people to celebrate. Our commonwealth athletes have been inspirational and the people of Glasgow and Scotland will give them and all our visitors a great send-off”.
Last week at the games opening ceremony, John Barrowman received considerable attention when he kissed a man – a move that was later confirmed to be scripted.
