Madame Tussauds in San Francisco is to unveil a wax figure of Laverne Cox, making her the first trans person to be honoured in the museum’s history.
Madame Tussauds has a long tradition of immortalising historical figures and iconic celebrities, and now the Orange is the New Black star and trans activist will be unveiled as the museums latest sculpture during Pride weekend on June 26.
Since her appearance on OITNB as inmate Sophia Burset, Cox has broken boundaries and has paved the way for trans rights. In June 2014, she became the first trans woman to be featured on the cover of TIME Magazine. Later last year, she became the first trans woman to be nominated for an Emmy Award.
See Laverne Cox return to Netflix on June 12, for Orange is the New Black season 3.
