A brand new lesbian dating show has been announced, and it is hilariously titled You Hauled. The show brings together a group of single queer women who will navigate whirlwind romances, intense relationship challenges and emotional eliminations, all while living together in a luxurious mansion. What could possibly go wrong!? Contestants will have to decide whether to “move in” with a match or “move on” in search of a better connection.
The phrase ‘U-Haul lesbian’ has long been a light-hearted trope within the LGBTQ+ community, describing couples who quickly move in together after dating for only a short time, often with chaotic results. But what happens when this stereotype is put to the test in a reality dating experiment?
The series promises plenty of classic reality TV drama, as teased in its recently released trailer. Highlights include a steamy lap dance, a whipped-cream kiss, heated confrontations, and even a dramatic poolside push.
With a dynamic and diverse cast made up predominantly of Black women, the show features both masculine and femme-presenting contestants, offering a refreshing contrast to mainstream dating shows, which have long been dominated by straight, cisgender, and white participants.
You Hauled is hosted by Liz Smith, with guidance from relationship expert Dr. P, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Added to the mix is AICE (the “AI Cupid Expert”), an ever-present AI bot who appears to be nothing more than a speaker inside a disco ball precariously perched atop a Roomba. According to the trailer, AICE is always listening—whether that’s a comforting or unsettling thought remains to be seen.
This is the latest addition to the increasing list of queer-inclusive dating shows such as Are You the One? on MTV, The Ultimatum: Queer Love on Netflix, and I Kissed a Girl on BBC.
The series is set to launch soon on YouTube; you can watch for yourself and catch all the drama on the official channel (@YouHauledTv).
