LGBTQ+ artists took centre stage at the 2025 Grammy Awards, emerging as winners from some of the night’s most prestigious categories. Hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, the 67th annual ceremony took place on Sunday, February 2, honouring achievements in music as chosen by members of the Recording Academy.
Queer singer St. Vincent collected three awards, including Best Alternative Music Album for All Born Screaming, Best Alternative Music Performance for ‘Flea’ and Best Rock Song for ‘Broken Man’. Charli xcx also won in three categories for her iconic Brat project, as did fan-favourite Beyoncé, who finally received her first Album of the Year trophy for Cowboy Carter.

Making her Grammy debut, breakout star Chappell Roan won Best New Artist, using her acceptance speech to call for a liveable wage and basic healthcare for musicians, especially those in the early stages of their careers. Ahead of the ceremony, she spoke to GLAAD’s Chrishell Stause and Anthony Allen Ramos, expressing support for the trans community amid ongoing attacks by the Trump administration.
“Trans people have always existed and they will forever exist, and they will never, no matter what happens, take trans joy away,” she said. “I would not be here without trans girls, so just know that pop music is thinking about you and cares about you, and I’m trying my best to stand up for you in every way that I can.”

Lady Gaga similarly used the occasion to spread an empowering message. Collecting the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance alongside Bruno Mars for their song ‘Die With a Smile’, Mother Monster stated, “Trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love. The queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love.”
During the commercial break, Gaga also premiered her new single ‘Abracadabra’, taken from her upcoming album MAYHEM. The music video opens with the line, “The category is: dance or die,” and features spellbinding choreography with a cast of over 40 performers.
Elsewhere, another Grammy first-timer, Doechii, was awarded Best Rap Album for Alligator Bites Never Heal. She is just the third woman in history to win the category, following in the footsteps of Lauryn Hill and Cardi B. Speaking to GLAAD ahead of the ceremony, Doechii said she wants “to see more gay artists” in the music industry.
