After Netflix’s Heartstopper dropped an adorable release date teaser for season 2 in April, fans were left to wait for more news on the upcoming instalment of Nick and Charlie’s love story. Thanks to a new first look, the wait is over!

Based on Alice Oseman’s best-selling graphic novel series of the same name, the highly praised show is a celebration of queer love, following characters Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) nurturing their new relationship as they navigate school, friendships and more.

During Netflix’s Tudum fan event last Saturday, June 17, series co-stars Corinna Brown and Kizzy Edgell, who play girlfriends Tara and Darcy, presented a first look at the opening scene of the second season as well as the titles of all incoming episodes.

The opening scene picks up the morning after the finale of the first season left off, where Nick came out as bisexual to his mother (Olivia Colman) after a day at the beach with his now official boyfriend, Charlie.

It mimics the opening scene of the series itself, with Charlie getting ready for the school day while texting the boy of his dreams, except this time the boy in question is the lovable rugby king Nick Nelson, and not closeted bully Ben Hope (Sebastian Croft).

The scene ends with Charlie arriving at school and reuniting with Nick on the first official day of their relationship. Fans can expect the rest of the show to follow the couple and their friends, as well as new characters like Sahar (Leila Khan) and Nick’s brother, David (Jack Barton) being introduced.

The second season follows the precedent set by the first, with eight episodes confirmed by Netflix. The titles include ‘Out’, ‘Family’, ‘Promise’, ‘Challenge’, ‘Heat’, ‘Truth/Dare’, ‘Sorry’ and ‘Perfect’.

Additionally, Oseman has already teased some of the new plotlines such as the class trip to Paris from the graphic novels, and an exploration of asexuality for Tobie Donovan’s character, Issac.

If, like us, you’re dying to get more of a glimpse at what the new episodes have in store, Netflix shared a handful of first-look photos last month in the buildup to Tudum.

Season 2 of Heartstopper arrives to Netflix on August 3. Until then, fans can rewatch the first eight episodes or catch up on the graphic novel series to experience more of Nick, Charlie and their unapologetically queer friend group.
