Following his mural on George’s Street Dublin that depicted two men embracing, Joe Caslin has unveiled a similar piece showing two women sharing an intimate moment on the wall of a Galway castle. The unveiling comes the week of the marriage equality referendum on May 22.
The artist told The Irish Times, “The images that I wanted to show are things that are dignified. To show love, that’s essentially what it is, the equality that people should have no matter what sort of a relationship they’re in.” “I didn’t want to have the piece of the two lads up and not follow it up with a female version,” he added, “I wanted to show the broader aspects of relationships.”

The installation is made of biodegradable materials. The George’s Street mural was badly damaged in the recent wet weather, which Caslin explained was expected, and that the piece was never meant to be permanent.
