LGBT Tourism Sector In Ireland Worth €843 million

YES

The monumental Yes vote in Ireland’s marriage equality referendum means a HUGE boom for the Irish tourist market, according to new research.

According to new figures from LGBT Capital, a UK based company specialising in LGBT asset management and corporate advisory, the LGBT tourism sector in Ireland could be worth as much as €843 million since the Yes vote – that’s 17% of all tourism in Ireland.

Although the data generated by LGBT Capital is based on ‘macro’ figures and research done in other markets such as the UK and USA, a spokeswoman from Failte Ireland said a boost in LGBT tourism following the marriage referendum is unsurprising.

“The recent referendum was profiled extensively in media at home and overseas and would certainly have brought Ireland to the attention of the global LGBT sector.

“So coupled with the ongoing growth in overseas visitors reported by the CSO, it would be no surprise if we did see an increase in visitors from the LGBT sector,” she said.
