Following a statement from RTÉ about the removal of part of Rory O’Neill’s interview, citing sensitivity over the murder of Tom O’Gorman, O’Neill has clarified his statements.
RTÉ Player removed part of O’Neil’s interview on last weekend’s Saturday Night Show – aka Miss Panti, citing legal concerns.
In a statement to thejournal.ie, RTÉ said: Last weekend’s The Saturday Night Show was removed from the Player due to potential legal issues and for reasons of sensitivity following the death of Tom O’Gorman as would be standard practice in such situations.
In response, O’Neill tweeted: “To clarify: I did not mention Tom O’Gorman on RTE Saturday Night. The tragic incident involving Mr O’Gorman happened on Sunday morning.
“I can only assume the reference to Mr O’Gorman in the RTE statement relates to me mentioning his employer, The Iona Institute.”
Talking about homophobia in the Saturday Night Show interview, O’Neill named the Iona Institute and a number of Irish newspaper columnists.
