Fans of the beloved queer pirate series Our Flag Means Death have raised more than $85,000 to support trans youth in need. A craft fair, organised by two dedicated fans, was set up to raise money for the Campaign for Southern Equality’s Trans Youth Emergency Project.
The project provides essential financial and logistical support to families of trans youth, offering emergency grants and assistance in accessing healthcare.

The initial fundraising goal was a modest $5,000 but this target was smashed within just 11 minutes. Fans continued to contribute, surpassing the next milestone of $37,000 before reaching a final total of $85,417.
Series creator David Jenkins joined the efforts by donating several exclusive items for the auction. One of the most sought-after pieces was the Act of Grace prop, which featured doodles by Taika Waititi, who portrayed Blackbeard in the series. This one-of-a-kind item sold for over $15,300. Jenkins also donated a promotional teapot, originally sent out by HBO during the first season’s release, which fetched more than $6,400.
Despite the show’s devoted following, Our Flag Means Death was officially cancelled last year. Jenkins shared the sad news on Instagram, expressing his gratitude for the journey and the passionate fanbase.

“We’ve reached the end of the road, at least as far as this sweet show is concerned,” he wrote.
At the time of the show’s potential end, fans once again proved their dedication when they paid for a gigantic advert in New York’s Times Square, demanding a third season. Fans also went on to launch a petition, which impressively attracted more than 87,000 signatures.
Although the series may have come to an end, the fandom’s impact continues to be felt. Their generosity and dedication have made a real and long lasting difference in the lives of trans youth, proving that the spirit of Our Flag Means Death lives on beyond the screen.
