In Living Memory, an independent fashion show and exhibition in Dublin, will take a unique approach to showcasing the pieces from Fynes Studio. It will combine an interactive runway performance with photography, followed by a collection display.
Rather than following a traditional catwalk format, the models will instead walk through and around the audience, allowing the attendees to see the pieces up close and from several different perspectives. By bringing the models into the crowd, the exhibition hopes to create a more personal and intimate connection between the audience and the garments.
Audience members will be encouraged to photograph the models as they move through the space, allowing them to capture the collection from several different perspectives.
These images will then be incorporated into the exhibition itself. After the runway, the photographs will be displayed alongside mannequins wearing pieces from the collection. This feature has been described as “creating a visual record of the event through the eyes of the people who experienced it”.

Brought to life by designer Sofie Fynes, the showcase takes inspiration from the 1980s, with the models and performers depicting a series of intimate scenes throughout the event. The performances will bring together themes of memory, nostalgia and sustainability, highlighting the personal histories that can become attached to clothing.
“Featuring reconstructed and repurposed menswear, the event brings together fashion, photography, performance and participation to explore storytelling, memory and sentimental sustainability in a shared experience.”
In Living Memory will be a follow-up to Fyness’ previous collection, Finishing Touches, which similarly explored memories through the perspective of clothing. The exhibition will build on these ideas by showing how memories can be created, captured and shared through an interactive fashion experience.
A two-night event, the fashion show and exhibition will be held at McGowans of Phibsboro in Dublin on September 14 and 15. Each show will be followed by an afterparty, giving audience members a chance to grab a drink, meet the designer, photographers and models and discuss the work and ideas behind the collection.
Acting as an alternative to a conventional fashion show, the combination of audience participation and performance will transform the exhibition into a shared, evolving experience. Get your tickets for the exhibition here.
