Queer Hawk, Dublin’s first LGBTQ+ barbershop, salon and community space, has announced a heartwarming new initiative: free haircuts for asylum seekers and homeless individuals. Located in the heart of Temple Bar at 3a Aston Place, the barbershop took to Instagram to share the news, writing, “We’re thrilled to offer free haircuts to asylum seekers and homeless people.”

To participate, interested individuals can fill out a form linked in Queer Hawk’s Instagram bio. The form gathers details like general availability, hair length, desired style, and contact information. There’s also an optional space to share personal stories.

Queer Hawk emphasised that privacy is their priority, stating that all submitted information will be used exclusively for this initiative. While the program is open to everyone, regardless of LGBTQ+ identity, they highlighted the need to respect the space as a queer-friendly environment. As the barbershop explained, “Because everyone deserves dignity and care.”

This generous initiative reflects Queer Hawk’s mission to provide more than just haircuts. Since opening its doors in October 2024, the salon has served as a welcoming community hub where people can not only receive professional grooming but also feel safe and supported.

Founded by Irish-Brazilian couple Kiro and Thiago, Queer Hawk aims to foster connection and inclusivity, offering even a simple coffee and chat for those who visit. In a previous interview with GCN, the pair explained: “It’s amazing to see people so happy here because they feel at home”.

In a separate Instagram post, the barbershop also announced its departure from using Meta’s paid advertising platforms, citing a misalignment with the company’s recent policy changes. They urged their nearly 10,000 Instagram followers to support the business organically by spreading the word. “We’re saying goodbye to paid ads on Instagram and all other Meta platforms. As a small queer business, we need your support to keep growing!”

The announcement of Queer Hawk’s free haircut innitiative is just one way that the team continues to shine as a beacon of acceptance and compassion, blending their dedication to hairstyling with a passion for community care.
