Roscommon Pride have announced their 2025 festival weekend, starting from August 22 to August 24. The special celebration will be full of family-friendly Pride events and more, with the march set to take place on August 23.

Roscommon Pride was first launched last year with the aim of connecting the local LGBTQ+ community in celebration and protest. In rural parts of Ireland such as Roscommon, finding community is vital, especially for younger LGBTQ+ people. Initiatives such as the festival are important to ensure members of the community don’t feel isolated.

The annual march is set to start from The Quad in Roscommon town, leading all the way to Loughlenane Park. This year, Roscommon Pride announced a very special guest to lead their parade. Award-winning Irish poet Jane Clarke will be the Grand Marshal.

Jane Clarke is originally from County Roscommon and now lives in Wicklow with her wife. She is the author of critically acclaimed works such as The River, When the Tree Falls and A Change in the Air. Clarke’s poetry focuses on the beauty of Ireland’s countryside, especially Roscommon’s beauty.

Commenting on this year’s Roscommon Pride, Clarke said: “I’m honoured to be Grand Marshall for Roscommon Pride 2025. We can never take human rights and equality for granted: it’s as important as ever to celebrate together and to stand for a compassionate, loving and creative society.”

The organisers of Roscommon Pride also commented by saying, “As a proud advocate for inclusivity and acceptance, Jane embodies the spirit of Pride, and we are honoured to have her lead this year’s Pride celebrations.”

Karina Murray, Event Manager of Roscommon Pride, said, “We’re delighted to welcome Jane Clarke as Grand Marshall for Roscommon Pride 2025. Jane’s powerful and poetic voice has inspired many in our community over the years.”

This announcement brings excitement for the upcoming events of the Pride festival. This event invites everyone, people from the community as well as allies!
