On the year of her 90th birthday, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra is set to celebrate Dame Julie Andrews’s long and successful career with a special evening of music filled with beloved songs.

Born in 1935, Dame Julie Andrews has shown the world her many talents as an actor, singer and author. During her career spanning seven decades, she has garnered several accolades, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA, two Emmys, three Grammys and six Golden Globe awards.

Starting her career on the stage in London’s West End in 1948, she made her Broadway debut in The Boy Friend in 1954. Her first film was the iconic Mary Poppins in 1964, a role for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. The following year, she also won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Sound of Music.

Julie Andrews turned 90 on October 1 this year, and to mark the special occasion, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra is gearing up for two incredible nights of music, which will include many songs we have all grown to love. The two special events will take place in Limerick and in Dublin.

Led by conductor Richard Balcombe, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra will take the audience through a magical night of music. They will be joined by vocalists Graham Bickley, who has already taken part in other orchestra concerts such as The Music of Jeff Lynne’s ELO and Symphonic Bee Gees; Katie Birtill, who shone in A Night at the Oscars with the orchestra and RTÉ lyric fm Movies and Musicals Live; and Kelly Mathieson.

The events are co-presented by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and GRB Concerts. The feel-good programme will include ‘I Could Have Danced All Night’, ‘Chim Chim Cheree’, ‘My Favourite Things’ and many more foot-tapping family favourites.

In Limerick, you can watch this incredible show on November 28 at the University Concert Hall. The following night, November 29, the show will move to The Helix in Dublin. Tickets to both events are already on sale, so don’t miss your chance to snatch some!

Founded in 1948, the RTÉ CO has a vibrant, eclectic repertoire encompassing popular, classical, jazz, traditional and more.

Created in 2012 by Graham Bickley and Richard Balcombe, GRB Concerts devise, programme, orchestrate and cast concert programmes for orchestras across the UK and abroad.
