It’s official – Sam Smith and his boyfriend Jonathan Zeizel have called it a day, after what seems like only a day.

They may have been posting cute couple pics from their romantic getaway, and filming each other in the shower singing Beyoncé only a mere few weeks ago – but Sam confirmed that the pair were no longer an item.

Sam confirmed the sad news on stage in Toronto this week, before performing the song “Like I Can”. A break-up song, of course. But to add an extra bit of melodrama, the two met on the set of the music video for this single.

Sam introduced the song to the audience by saying, “This song is very special for me today, as I’ve actually had to do a very similar thing with someone I’ve been seeing.”

“Hopefully I will find someone soon and when I do I think it will be a bit more difficult to sing songs because I will want to sing happy songs,” he said after the show. “Right now when I’m on stage I feel like it is good for me, it is like therapy every night. The music comforts me.”

Don’t worry, Sam. No doubt you’ll turn that heartache into another few Brit Awards.
