Olympic bronze medalist Tom Daley and screenwriter husband Dustin Lance Black have announced they are having a baby.
Both Daley and Lance-Black posted photos simultaneously to their Instagram accounts. Daley simply captioned his post “HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! ❤️???❤️” while Dustin wrote, “A very happy #ValentinesDay from ours to yours. ???”.
A spokesman the Olympic diver said: “Tom and Dustin are thrilled to share that they are expecting their first child in 2018.”
The couple has previously spoken about wanting to have children and they wish to give their son or daughter as happy a childhood as they both had.
The image of the ultrasound suggests that they are having a baby through a surrogate.
People have suggested that from the ultrasound, it looks as though the baby’s development is around the 20-week mark which would mean that they will be expecting to become fathers at the start of summer.
Speaking last year, Daley said:
“Lance and I definitely want a family in the future – who knows when?
“We’re both lucky to have supportive families and we want to share that with our own children.”
In 2016, Dustin told OUT magazine:
“We were so busy making all these plans – we both wanted to have children; we both wanted to build a home of our own someday.”
“I draw, so I was sketching little plans for houses on cliffs overlooking oceans, while Tom watched over my shoulder – it was a very grown-up version of playing house.
“Marriage is the foundation to all of these other big plans we have. So we knew we were going to get engaged—it was just a matter of when, and who does it.”
The pair tied the knot in May 2017 in an intimate ceremony at a lavish golf resort in Dartmoor national park.
Late last year it was revealed that the pair had been experiencing a rocky patch before they wed when they were long distance but they have reconciled their differences.
Daley admitted to the online affair and said he confessed all to Dustin pledging: “This will absolutely never happen again now that we’re getting married”.
At the time of revelations he told The Sun:
“It was the distance. It’s not like I actually met up with anyone. I’m 22 years old, and if you talk to someone through social media it is what it is. It was nothing more than that. We never physically met.”
Dustin (43), the Oscar-winning screenwriter of the film Milk, added:
“Tom and I talked about anything and everything that went on. That’s the secret to how we are so close and can survive tough times.
“I was out of the country for about seven months last year — I’d been back and forth before that too, and in that time Tom and I took a decision to take time off.”
