Jazz Jennings, a 14 year-old trans advocate, will be the focus of her very own reality series on TLC.
Entitled All that Jazz, the series will follow Jazz in her daily life, juggling her foray into high school while navigating how a transgender teen approaches dating and sleepovers all while avoiding male puberty.
Jazz was assigned male at birth but began to show signs of gender dysphoria as early as two years of age. With her diagnosis and her parents’ support, Jazz began to transition at the age of six.
Jazz Jennings was the subject of I Am Jazz – a documentary on Oprah’s OWN network when she was 11 – she sat with Barbara Walters a year later to discuss being trans. She wrote a children’s book, I Am Jazz (with writer Jessica Herthel), about her experiences growing up as a trans child that was published this past fall and was named by Time magazine as one of the “25 Most Influential Teens of 2014”, alongside the likes of Malala Yousafzai.
“Jazz’s story is universal, yet unique, and we’re proud to partner with her family to share it with TLC’s audience. Jazz may be known as an author and activist, but she’s first and foremost a teenage girl with a big, brave heart, living a remarkable life,” said Nancy Daniels, General Manager, TLC.
This week, skincare company Clean & Clear named Jazz as the face of their new ad campaign “See the Real Me.”
