Icon Twink will look back on her favourite memories in the entertainment business as she approaches 60 years as a performer. The new RTÉ show called ‘Twinkling Through The Years’ will feature clips from her most unforgettable television moments.
The pantomime actress will reminisce over moments such as her time in her musical career, her time on The Live Mike and in theatre through the years. Some of Twink’s performances include the role of Miss Hannigan in Annie, Mena Glavin in Sive and narrating The Snowman.
She was also part of the girl group ‘Maxi, Dick and Twink’ who performed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. One of the trio’s most popular songs was ‘Things You Hear About Me’, which came second place to Dana’s ‘All Kinds Of Everything’ in the Irish National Song Contest in 1970.
Maxi, Dick and Twink were an all-girl singing trio in Ireland in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Twink- whose real name is Adele King- was in the group with Maxi who is Irene McCoubrey and Dick who is Barbara Dixon.
Twink is a much-loved television personality and she will recall some of her memorable appearances with Gay Byrne who received a Lifetime Achievement Aware in Dublin Castle Friday, June 28.
The beloved performer was married to oboist David Agnew for 21 years before splitting up in 2004. A voicemail that Twink left Agnew was leaked where she told her ex to “zip up your mickey” after he had a child with another woman.
The voicemail took on a life of its own and is a regular part of queer caberet night, Spicebag.
Recently speaking to RSVP Live about her love life following the public break-up Twink said that she has somebody in her life: “I do have somebody rather special. But he is on the other side of the world and not remotely connected to this business”.
Twinkling Through The Years will air on RTÉ One at 8:15 pm this Friday, July 6.
