It’s a moment – however brief – that fans of The Comeback have been waiting almost ten years to treasure, as HBO unveils the first teaser for the Emmy-nominated show that got cancelled after one season in 2005.
Using audio from the first season we hear Valerie Cherish, the iconic lead character played by Lisa Kudrow begging the studio “give me another take”, as the red-haired narcissist pushes through a crowd of paparazzo and fans – but are they hers?
An official premiere date has yet to be announced for the show’s reboot, but we know it will be some time in November. It has also been confirmed that fan favourites Kellan Lutz, Lance Barber and Malin Ackerman will return.
The 6-episode mockumentary will be written, directed and executive produced by Kudrow together with Michael Patrick King, who was the mastermind behind the first season. The pair will be joined by Emmy-winning Scandal producer Dan Bucatinsky.
Speaking about the possibility of a third season, King informed, “This season has a beginning, middle and an end. If we’re lucky, maybe you’ll see her again. This felt like a very full experience”.
The original run of The Comeback in 2005 saw Valerie Cherish, a washed-up actress desperately trying to claw her way back into Hollywood’s inner circle, agreeing to film her life for a reality show while she played an embarrassing supporting role on a teen sitcom, Room and Bored.
The highly anticipated second season of the cult hit sees Cherish in a post-Real Housewives world, trying to stay relevant almost ten years later with Twitter, blogging and Bravo on her mind.
