Irish musicians JD Kelleher and Peter M Smith have released their version of ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ to encourage a Yes Vote in the Marriage Referendum.
Ahead of the referendum on May 22, JD Kelleher and Peter M Smith released a beautiful rendition of Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart.
Smith said of the upcoming referendum, “The votes that we are trying to encourage are not the ones you would expect. We are hoping to reach people who may not necessarily like gay people but are prepared to recognise their right to freedom of choice in both lifestyle and marriage as a cornerstone of equality for all in a modern inclusive Ireland.”
This song is their attempt to raise awareness to the need for a positive vote for freedom, a Yes to Equality. It is now available to pre-order on iTunes worldwide and to download from the May 11 2015.
“Ireland has an opportunity to lead the way on May 22, to become a beacon of hope, not just for our own nation, but for the entire world,” Kelleher said, “It is time to end the stereotypes, time to end the lies and the smears, time to end the false distinction between partnership and marriage. The time has come for Ireland to liberate her own people.”
