Aussie comedian and one third of YouTube group Axis of Awesome, Jordan Raskopoulos, comes out as trans in amusing, heart-warming video.
The hugely popular YouTuber of, 4 Chord Song fame, finally addressed fan questions about why her trademark beard was suddenly gone. To clear up speculation, the lead singer of the comedy music trio did what she does best and took her to YouTube Channel to explain that was was transgender.
“Gender dysphoria is something that I can remember dealing with ever since I was a kid,” said the 34 year-old. “I learned early on to be ashamed of it and to keep it a secret and I did a really good job of hiding it from everybody, including myself in a lot of ways.
“But towards the end of 2014, while we were in tour in the UK, I reached a point where I couldn’t deny it anymore,” she added.
Jordan explains that she started to transition in March of 2014, and initially worried that coming out would affect her career negatively. She looked to trans celebrities like Laura Jane Grace and Lana Wachowksi as role models, and realised that she can go on performing.
“I’m going to carry on doing what I love and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it,” Raskopoulos said.
“In fact I think it’s really important that I do because being trans doesn’t mean you have to give up on your life, or your friends, or your family, or your career, or your achievements. I’m going to continue doing exactly what I was doing before, and I’m going to be fucking awesome.”
Right on, girl!
