Carol and The Danish Girl lead in Bafta Nominations

Carol’s Kate Blanchett and The Danish Girl’s Eddie Redmayne lead in this year’s Bafta nominations

Eddie Redmayne is nominated once again for Best Actor for his role in The Danish Girl. The actor is hoping for a scond gong after winning the prize for The Theory of Everything last year. Redmayne is up against Bryan Cranston, Leonardo DiCaprio and Michael Fassbender for the award.

Cate Blanchett is up for Best Actress for her part in lesbian love story Carol. She is facing competition from The Danish Girl star Alicia Vikander and Saoirse Ronan, Brie Larson and Dame Maggie Smith.

In total Carol is up for nine awards. It is also nominated for Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Best Director, Adapted Screenplay, Supporting Actress, Cinematography, Production Design and Best Costume.

The Danish Girl – in which Redmayne plays transgender pioneer Lili Elbe – is also named on the shortlist for Outstanding British Film.
