LGBTQ+ celebrities have always pushed the boundaries when it comes to fashion. They are the trailblazers years before their style becomes a trend. Now, in 2024, with the internet’s control of popular culture, queer fashion is more mainstream than ever.
Queer designers are front and centre in 2024. Chappell Roan brought many LGBTQ+ costumiers into the spotlight this year with her incredible concert looks, including Dublin’s Oran O’Reilly. Ireland’s John Mangru designed for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which also featured trans models for the first time ever. Elsewhere, at the Challengers premiere and the Met Gala, Law Roach brought his styling partnership with Zendaya to the global stage.
Independent artists also gained traction on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. From those with hundreds of followers to those with millions, queer fashionistas OOTD’d their way to internet fame.
There is no one way to look queer, and there’s no one way to look good, but if you want some tips, keep reading. Here are the queer fashion trends of 2024.
Accessories galore

If you’ve ever heard the phrase “Take off one accessory before you leave,” disregard that advice. In fact, put some more accessories on for good measure.
Queer people have always loved little trinkets, but now they’ve taken to wearing their collections. Whether it’s funky earrings or a load of bag charms, over-accessorising is the new accessorising.
Country chic
Between Lil Nas X, Orville Peck, Beyoncé, Chappell Roan, and CMAT, we’ve seen a sweet southern renaissance in fashion.
Cowboy boots can bring a little country to any outfit. A vest, leather or otherwise, can make any shirt pop. Fringe makes everything better. A cowboy hat brings the party. Reclaim the cowboy name and queer up country.
A pop of cheetah print

Whether it’s a full-blown faux fur jacket, or a printed corset, a pop of cheetah print has become a fall staple in the wardrobe of gays everywhere. Don’t worry about clashing prints either, that’s a thing of the past. Cheetah print goes with anything: spring florals, fall checks, and even neons in the summer. Anyone, from the Saturday night drag queens to your androgynous barista, can rock cheetah print.
Brat green
Popularised by gay favourite Charlie xcx, Brat green has become a staple in wardrobes everywhere. From sheer dresses to puffer jackets, the colour has made its way onto every piece of clothing. Even if you don’t want to look like a whole bowl of limes, pops of neon complement any outfit. Go bold by going green!
Trench coats

Jackets are the perfect statement piece, and this year, trench coats made a comeback in a big way. Perfect for cold Irish weather, the trench provides full body warmth while serving looks. Keep it beige or colour it up. Patterns work too! Stay dry this winter without looking like a bin bag and get yourself a trench.
Oversized blazers
This one isn’t just for the lesbians. Anyone can rock the big blazer. It could be a little roomy or comically large, but if you aren’t swimming in your blazer, you don’t want it.
No matter where you are, you’ll see queer fashion. From festival stages to the local Lidl, it’s everywhere. Embrace queerness going into the new year and try out some of these looks.
