Cassandra Peterson, best known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, has released her own special cookbook filled to the brim with Halloween recipes, hosting tips and crafty projects.
Cassandra Peterson created her legendary character Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, for the 1981 TV show called Movie Macabra. Donning all black with a giant raven wig, Elvira became a champion of the weirdos and the freaks, gaining a special place in the hearts of the queer community.
The self-proclaimed Queen of Halloween thrilled LGBTQ+ fans across the globe when she released her memoir Yours Cruelly, Elvira, in which she opened up about her 19-year relationship with a woman.
Right on time for the spooky season, Elvira is once again making our queer hearts flutter by releasing the perfect cookbook to spice up our Halloween gatherings. Titled Elvira’s Cookbook from Hell, the 222-page book is filled with whimsical recipes like the ‘Spook-Ghetti and Eyeballs’, ‘Guaca-Morbid’ and ‘Sausage Guts’.
A special mention goes to the Adraka Kozarole recipe, a nod to a memorable scene from the star’s 1988 film Elvira: Mistress of the Dark. Speaking to People about this recipe, Peterson said: “People always wondered what it was, what was in it.
“It’s actually a little bit inspired by my childhood. My mom wasn’t, what I would say, a fantastic cook. She usually topped mostly everything with crunched potato chips and Cheese Whiz. It’s basically a green bean casserole that I had as a kid for Thanksgiving.”
In addition to macabre recipes, the book offers tips on how to throw the ultimate Halloween party, complete with instructions for delicious signature cocktails.
The star told People, “Most of the Halloween cookbooks and things of that genre are geared more towards kids, which is great. But I wanted this to be more of an adult party time — so things like a romantic graveside picnic and things that a goth-geared person would be interested in.”
