The Louth & Meath Education and Training Board understands that when it comes to embarking on a new chapter as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, the reassurance that you’ll be accepted for who you are can make a world of difference.

From new jobs to new courses, the knowledge that we can show up as ourselves is transformative. Here we explore how the Louth & Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB) fosters LGBTQ+ inclusion.

LMETB is the largest provider of education in the northwest region of Ireland, supporting approximately 30,000 learners each year and delivering high-quality education and training across Louth and Meath. Their diverse portfolio includes Community National Schools, Post Primary Schools, a broad range of Further Education and Training (FET) services, Advanced Manufacturing Training, Apprenticeships, and Music Generation programmes.

The Louth & Meath Education and Training Board is a supportive environment where learners of all ages and backgrounds are welcome. In fact, as both an education provider and employer, inclusion is a cornerstone of the board’s ethos, and embedded in policies, procedures and everyday practices.

LMETB’s schools, Further Education and Training (FET) centres and administrative offices are places where LGBTQ+ staff members feel safe, supported and seen. Their HR services and Employee Assistance are in place to ensure all staff are afforded the resources they need.

Students, meanwhile, benefit from a wide range of support services across LMETB’s education and training facilities, and LMETB’s staff’s dedication to promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion is evident in the board’s commitment to non-discriminatory practices.

As a public body, LMETB maintains a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination. This is clearly outlined in the board’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Policy and their obligations under the Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty.

Need more proof of LMETB’s commitment to fostering inclusion for LGBTQ+ students and staff members? Look no further than their recent victories. Last year, LMETB celebrated a regional first when two of their Meath post-primary schools – O’Carolan College, Nobber and St. Peter’s College Dunboyne – were awarded the Belong To LGBTQ+ Quality Mark, recognising their outstanding commitment to inclusion and support.
