The first teaser trailer for Practical Magic 2 has dropped, giving fans a first look at Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock’s onscreen reunion. The pair will once again play the iconic Owens sisters, nearly three decades on from the original film.
Directed by Susanne Bier, the sequel will build on the story set in the 1998 cult classic. It will draw from Alice Hoffman’s novel The Book of Magic, the fourth in her Practical Magic series.
Bullock and Kidman return as Sally and Gilly, who inherited the gift of witchcraft from their late parents. The actors will be joined in the film by Stockard Channing and Dianne West, who once again play their witchy aunts, as well as new cast members Maisie Williams and Joey King, who play Sally’s daughters. Interestingly, in Hoffman’s The Book of Magic, Williams’ character Antonia is a lesbian, giving reason to believe that there may be an explicitly queer storyline in the sequel.
The story will be set 25 years after the events of the first film, returning to a world steeped in moonlit mischief and powerful ancestral magic. When a family secret is uncovered, the Owens are plunged into a multi-generational struggle to finally break the curse that has haunted their lineage for centuries.
The trailer dropped on Monday, April 20, with Sandra Bullock sharing the clip alongside the caption, “We’re back”. The comments were full of excited responses from celebrities and fans alike.
