On Saturday, August 22, Trans Pride Limerick 2026 will take place at Bedford’s Row in the city from 4pm. It is organised by Beth Clancy and Jonah Garvey, two young queer people from the county with a passion for activism.
On what to expect from the protest, Beth shares, “Expect a lot of protest chants, shouting, cheers, laughs, joy as well as anger. There will be speakers from Mammies for Trans Rights, Trans Limerick Community and others.”
Following the protest, there will be a Trans Talent Showcase at the Wickham at 6:20pm, featuring a stacked line-up of performers. These performers include Magazine Cowboy, Orlaith, Poppy De Scrace, Ashleytism, Laura McNamara, Debi Lynn, Atlas Hawthorne, Motherwound and Esme O’Riodan.
The event will be free entry, and Beth adds, “We are paying people from our own funds and there will be bands from Cork, Dublin and Limerick”.

The protest has grown significantly since it started in 2024, as Beth explains, “the first Trans Pride only got around 20 people, most being my friends and fellow activists”.
They continue, “I was 17 at the time, and me and my friend were terrified, but eventually, over the last year, it got bigger. The local trans and queer community got way more involved, and more people came around”.
It is also a part of a wider movement of Trans Prides across Ireland, bringing Pride back to its community-led grassroots origins. When asked what drove Beth to form their own, they replied, “I found out about Trans Pride Dublin and Cork in maybe 2023 and started attending both events annually. It felt so great to protest with my community and have so much anger and love together, so I started thinking of how to organise my own little Pride”.
They conclude, “There was no way I would be able to organise Trans Pride without solidarity from the socialist movement in Limerick”.
