On August 22, Dublin’s only queer punk and goth club night, Dance to the Underground (DTTU), will celebrate its five-year anniversary at Fibber Magees. The event will be from 9pm until 2:30am, with €10 entry, and is aimed at “Queers, rockers, punks, goths, drags, weirdos, freaks, deviants, maniacs and misfits in Dublin”.

People can expect a rock ‘n’ roll drag show featuring Coco Ri, Count Bella and Vladya Curses, and DTTU adds, “Drag is art! Drag is punk! Drag is political!” DJs Rob Tibia and Rod Fibula will also be playing underground anthems and alternative music all night.

Additionally, there will be the chance to support local artists at the DIY Queer Market.

The nightclub first started in 2021, and while their official anniversary date is in November, they are choosing to celebrate this August.

DTTU shares on social media, “DTTU is a dream that came true and we’re so grateful to have gathered the best bunch of misfits in Dublin and also in Berlin!” They continue that the event is “made by queers for queers! During this 5 years we built together our community and we so proud of us! Thank YOUS for all the support and love!”

In 2022, GCN wrote a feature on the nightclub’s 1-year anniversary, and since then it has continued to grow significantly as a safe space for punks and goths in the Irish LGBTQ+ community.  Historically, punk culture has always been an important part of the queer community, as both share a desire to transgress societal norms and express oneself authentically.

Dance to the Underground concludes: “We’re stronger together! See you on the dance floor. Be there or be straight!
