On September 19, for one fantastic evening, drag legend Mr Pussy will be hosting a night of glamorous entertainment at The Everyman Theatre in Cork. The icon will be accompanied by an array of special guests promising an evening filled with amazing live performances, including drag, comedy, music and dance. This is one show you don’t want to miss!
Mr Pussy is a pioneer of the Irish and UK drag scene, having gained mainstream success with his repeated guest appearances on RTÉ’s The Late Late Show, hosted by Gay Byrne, at a time when homosexuality was still criminalised in Ireland.
A strong contributor to Dublin’s nightlife, the drag artist opened the nightclub Mr Pussy’s Café De Luxe on Suffolk Street in 1994. A hub for celebrity guests, the club was a partnership between Mr Pussy and a selection of Irish artists including Bono, Gavin Friday, and filmmaker Jim Sheridan.
Seen as one of the great legends and pillars of Dublin drag culture, Mr Pussy has acted as a mentor figure for fellow drag artist Panti Bliss. Bliss has referred to him as “the mother of us all” and has credited him with helping set the template of the Irish drag scene.

Having worked in Cork many times, the event marks a homecoming of sorts for Mr Pussy. Playing an important part in his career, he looks forward to returning and having the opportunity to reconnect with the local audience. The Everyman also holds a sentimental place in the performer’s heart, as his friend and fellow entertainer, Cork’s own Danny La Rue, previously performed at the same venue.
“I have such wonderful memories of performing in Cork over the years,” Mr Pussy said. “To have the opportunity to perform at The Everyman is very special to me. Danny La Rue was a dear friend and someone I admired enormously, so being able to follow in his footsteps and perform on this stage is something I’m very proud of.”
The show will be a celebration of both drag and variety entertainment, something La Rue contributed greatly to in Ireland.
A variety of artists will be joining Mr Pussy at The Everyman, including international singer Kristin Kappelli, comedian and musician Tina D Parton, the Jack Cunningham Stage School Dancers, Cork drag queen Magenta Fox and drag king Kenny Todgers. The line-up will bring an assortment of unique entertainment.
