Swedish singer Robyn, along with tech giants Google and Spotify, will launch an all-girls’ tech festival in Sweden, in order to encourage girls to join the tech industry.

TEKLA, an all-girls technology festival in Sweden’s Royal Institute of Technology, is a day-long conference that will be held on April 18. It will see 200 11 to 18 year-old women participate in workshops aimed at sparking interest in various tech fields, including game development, 3-D printing, robot programming, digital music, and interactive art.

Though Sweden is ahead of the majority of the world when it comes to gender equality, there is still a lack of girls and women in the tech industry.

Robyn was awarded KTH’s Great Prize in 2013 for advancing Swedish arts and sciences, and believes that young women are the future. “I wanted to do something to inspire girls who are curious about technology. TEKLA is a festival for girls which encourages them to get involved in the future of technology through what I believe will be a fun and imaginative environment.”

Robyn will also perform for the girls at the festival, shows she is an awesome human being.

We work actively with short term and long term strategies to help facilitate this and TEKLA is a perfect example of an activity that will impact attendees, as well as help shape the idea of what tech and science is for generations of girls to come.”
