Olympic diver Tom Daley has told BBC Sport that he is “overwhelmed” by how supportive the media and his fans have been since he revealed he was in a relationship with a man.

Tom Daley, 19, came out as bisexual in a Youtube video last month. Despite trying to keep his secret romance on the down-low, he has since made it apparent that he is a relationship with Oscar winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (39).

Daley told BBC, “The support from the public and the media and everyone has been overwhelming.

“It’s been so positive, and it’s put me in a great place and right now I couldn’t be happier. Hopefully 2014 is going to be a good year,” he added.

Despite being seen hitting the town with his new cradle snatcher boyfriend, Daley stressed that his diving career was still his top priority.

“Diving is now my number-one focus, and that’s the thing that it always has been. Now I feel like I can just go and be with Jane [Figueiredo, his coach] and work towards getting a gold medal in Rio,” he said.

Daley added that despite being 19 he is in no rush to go any further with his education just yet, saying “I’m 19 years old, I’ve finished my A-levels – most people would go to university, but I’ve decided to spread my wings a little bit.”
