Recreating visually the carnage of Sunday night in Pulse nightclub, Orlando, a WeHo artist makes a bold statement for better gun control laws

West Hollywood (WeHo) artist, ChadMichael Morrisette, has created a piece of art which references the massacre at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub from Sunday night in a bid to strengthen gun control laws.

The art sees fifty mannequins laying lifeless on a rooftop, accompanied by a sign reading “Fifty Dead People. #GunControl”.

“Imagine this was a dance floor, which is where they were,” ChadMichael elucidates on the piece of art.

“This affected me so much. I wanted people to see as the biggest shooting in American history, what that might look like, and I actually have the ability to show them that.”

Presidential Candidates Consider Change

Following this atrocity, gun control laws in America are facing renewed focus, with presidential candidates Clinton and Trump addressing the attack and the freedom with which someone who was on an FBI watchlist can access a gun.

“This is something I’ve been talking about for a long time,” Clinton said. “Look, the NRA and the other gun lobby members should be moving rapidly to work with Congress on this legislation.

“I know members of Congress, hopefully on both sides of the aisle, are beginning to look to see if they can pass this. And I fully support it.”

On Wednesday, Trump diverged from the Republican Party’s official stance on gun control.

“I will be meeting with the NRA, who has endorsed me, about not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no-fly list, to buy guns,” Trump tweeted on Wednesday morning.

With both presidential candidates looking to strengthen gun control laws incrementally, this could spell the end of the American constitutional right to wield a firearm.
