Brian Fleming’s one-man show ‘A Sacrilegious Lesbian and Homosexual Parade’ coming to An Táin Arts Theatre

The award winning one-man show ‘A Sacrilegious Lesbian and Homosexual Parade’ is making its way to Dundalk for one night only this Friday.

Brian Fleming’s show which tells the true story of the victory over bigotry and homophobia in the New York St Patrick’s Day Parade comes to Dundalk’s An Táin Arts Theatre this Friday at 8pm.

The show has had sold out performances, multiple award nominations in Ireland and New York and has also been critically acclaimed.

The Show

For twenty five years, from 1991 until this year, Irish LGBT groups were banned from marching in the St Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City.

The one-man show uses humour, storytelling, costume, bad dance, bad striptease, musical skills and projection to engage with the audience over the course of the fifty minute show.

From a Dublin child’s obsession with one of New York’s biggest landmarks, the Empire State building, to accidentally becoming a gay rights activist the story spans across multiple decades in both Ireland and New York.

The Real-Life Activist

Brendan Fay, the Louth man about whom the show was written, will be present to participate in the post-show discussion.

He will also be honoured by President Michael D Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin for his work with the Irish diaspora and the St Pat’s For All Parade, the first inclusive St Patrick’s Day Parade in New York.

Also joining Fay is his co-chair Kathleen Walsh Darcy, a New Yorker, who will be honoured by the President as well.
