Whatever your reasons for wanting to get fit and healthy, Dublin Front Runners Couch To 5K is the perfect way to achieve your fitness goals in time for Dublin Pride

Dublin Front Runners are signing beginner runners up for their Couch To 5K program which starts this Saturday, 1 April.

For those who don’t know, Dublin Front Runners is Dublin’s LGBT running group, which brings together the LGBT community to socialise, get fit and have fun.

The program takes your typical couch potato and transforms them into an athlete who can run 5K in the space of nine weeks for the amazingly low cost of €40 (which gets you membership of the running club until December 2017).

This makes it the perfect road to a fitter you, just in time for Dublin Pride!

Beginners Welcome

The Couch To 5K program finishes with a five kilometre Pride Run on June 16 with proceeds from the charity run going to LGBT community resources HIV Ireland, Outhouse and ShoutOut.

5K might sound daunting, but for those who are afraid that their fitness levels wouldn’t be up to the task, don’t be. Dublin Front Runners say that this program is for people who have no experience running: “No running experience or fitness level required – all are very welcome.”

“Even if you feel completely unfit and haven’t done much more than walk to the shop for years, don’t worry, you can do it,” Dublin Front Runners wrote on their website, “it just takes a bit of will and organisation.”

Keeping fit and healthy by exercising is not just great for your body (it kick starts your metabolism to help lose weight, increases stamina, improves sleep and you’ll also reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes), it makes your brain function more effectively too – improving memory, thinking skills, boosting your mood and more.

Exercise is kind of a natural wonder drug!

Couch To 5K – Where & When

Couch To 5K starts this Saturday at the Papal Cross in the Phoenix Park at 10am. The program will take 30 minutes a day, 3 days a week for the nine weeks.

The LGBT running club’s website details when training will take place: “Dublin Front Runners will facilitate three weekly sessions on Saturday mornings at 10am and on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:30pm in the Phoenix Park.”

So it’s time to shake off those winter cobwebs, get involved with Dublin Front Runners and kick your ass into gear this Saturday to get that summer body you’ve been longing for!
