White Supremacist Planned Machete Attack at UK Pride Event

A UK court has heard that man who planned a machete attack on a LGBT+ Pride event was stopped after posting about his plans on Facebook.

Twenty year-old Ethan Stables (pictured), who prosecutors say is a white supremacist and Holocaust denier, had reportedly gathered numerous weapons including knives, an axe and an air rifle, in preparation for his planned attack.

Stables had intended to attack patrons at the New Empire pub in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria during a Pride event in June last year, prosecutors told Leeds crown this week.

The accused was prevented from carrying out the machete attack after outlining his plans in a Nazi-themed Facebook group, which prompted a member to contact the police and post a warning on Twitter, reports The Guardian.

“I’m going to walk in and with a fucking machete and slaughter every single one of the gay bastards,” Stables posted.

“I’ve had enough,” he continued in another post. “I don’t want to live in a gay world and I sure as hell don’t want my children living in one. What happened to our traditional qualities? They’re fucking ruined.

“I don’t care if I die, I’m fighting for what I believe in and that is the future of my country, my folk, and my race.”

The court heard how Stables spent seven months researching and securing materials for his attack. Stables had become “enraged” after finding out that the New Empire public house was to hold an LGBT event.

“Between 2016 and his arrest in 2017, he was planning and preparing to commit acts of terrorism directed towards members of these groups but, primarily, directed towards people who were lesbian or gay,” prosecutor Jonathan Sandiford told the court on Tuesday (January 23).

Patrick Upward QC, Stables defender, told the jury that his client was more a “white fantasist” than a white supremacist and that he has a black best friend as well as a favourite gay uncle.
