On Friday, April 27, The Black Sheep Bar on Capel Street, Dublin, will host the 2018 season launch of the Pink Ladies Hockey Club, and they’re looking for new members! Ladies looking to join the team are welcome to attend from 7.30pm. Whether you’re a hockey pro or a novice, all experience levels are welcome, so if you’ve never played but always wanted to, there’s a place for you too, just turn up and get involved.
Founded in 2011, the Pink Ladies Hockey Club has grown from the humble beginnings of a mere 5 players all the way up to playing for Ireland amongst the international LGBT Pink Hockey community for five consecutive seasons. They’ve represented their country well, taking home the gold in the Dublin Pink Hockey Fest in 2012, placing on the podium in the World OutGames and the EuroGames as well as other Pink Hockey Fests throughout Europe. In 2015, they were nominated for a GALA Sports Award for their contribution to LGBT sporting life.
While these achievements certainly deserve celebration, the club say their biggest source of pride has been in establishing a safe and inclusive community in which enduring friendships and lasting memories have been made through the medium of a mixed ability LGBT sport.
From ex-Irish International players to total beginners and everything in between, women representing counties and clubs nationwide have worn the hallowed Pink Ladies jersey, this brilliantly diverse group sharing a common interest in sport and craic.
Post-launch, training will kick off May 10 and from there on every Thursday evening at 7.30 in Railway Union Hockey Club, Sandymount, Dublin 4.
For those who can’t make the launch, you can find more details at their website – http://pinkladieshockey.com , their Facebook page– https://m.facebook.com/pinkladieshockey/ or you can contact them at [email protected]
Best of luck to all the newbies and here’s to taking home another gold!
