Cher and Meryl Streep share a kiss at the premiere of Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again

Unless you’ve been living on an ABBA-free island for the past few months, you’ve probably heard about Cher being cast in the upcoming sequel to Mamma Mia, Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again.

Cher plays Ruby Sheridan, the mother of Meryl Streep’s character Donna. She shows up fairly early in the movie and belts out a rendition of ABBA’s classic hit ‘Fernando’. Have a watch below:

Even though the singer is only 3 years older than Fans have been going wild for Streep and Cher’s friendship, using the hashtag #cheryl on Twitter to share the duos most ship-worthy moments. Last night at the premiere of Here We Go Again, Meryl greeted share on the blue-carpet with a peck on the cheek, only to be returned as a full-blown smooch from the pop-diva herself.

Gay Christmas doesn’t end there, while promoting the movie Cher has revealed that she is releasing a brand-new album. Don’t expect any new Cher originals though, she’ll be covering ABBA’s classics.  “After I did Fernando, I thought it would really be fun to do an album of ABBA songs… so I did!” she said. She teased: “It’s not what you think of when you think ABBA, ’cause I did it in a different way.”

The release date for the album hasn’t been announced yet, but fan’s are going crazy for the news. This is the singer’s first full album since 2013’s Closer To The Truth.

ABBA fans have plenty to celebrate. As well as the release of the Mamma Mia sequel, all four members of ABBA- Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad- have announced that they will be reuniting after 35 years to release 2 new songs. The legendary pop group split up after 11 years of producing chart-topping hits like ‘Dancing Queen’ and ‘Waterloo’.

“We all felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio,” the band released in a statement about the songs. “So we did. And it was like time had stood still and we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience!”

The band have said that one of the new songs,  I Still Have Faith In You, will be performed by their digital selves in a TV special produced by NBC and the BBC aimed for broadcasting in December.

“We may have come of age, but the song is new. And it feels good.”

We can’t wait!
