Sarah Devereux has launched a GoFundMe page to garner financial support for her upcoming one-on-one show in September.
With four days left for donations to the project, she has so far raised €995 out of her target amount of a €1000. This exciting new project is the latest idea by the vibrant artist and performer Sarah Devereux. Devereux is also involved with the running of the queer cabaret night SPICEBAG, and more recently her exhibition Fun-erable was shown in A4 Sounds Studio in March 2018.
Do you like live art? (and existential dread/cool march/wigs/neon)
If you do throw Sarah Devereux a few euros for a v cool project she will be premiering in September! Her fundraiser is on fund:it, so if she doesn't… https://t.co/LGpAdpWRB4— Áine mayo for sam O'Hara (@miscaine) July 9, 2019
The funding for the show will go towards the creation of her new show, paying for elements such as set construction, costumes, props and transport. She describes her upcoming show as “part comedy, part cabaret, part theatre, part art installation, part gift shop.
“It will be a one-on-one experience in a very unusual but GAS venue! This will be exactly like Disneyland!”
Sarah Devereux’s work as an artist has been described as moving towards traditional performance art, video art, interventions and cabaret. Her work often tackles themes that are overtly political and addresses issues such as bodily autonomy and queer voices, whilst always remaining playful and absurd.
She has featured previously on an episode of GCN podcast Beducation with her co-founder of SPICEBAG, Stephen Quinn, in which they focus on kinks sex toys.
The new show promises to hit Dublin with the same signature wackiness and wonderful exuberance she has become known for as a performer. Although a specific date has yet to be scheduled for the project, it will be taking place during the time of the Dublin Fringe Festival 2019.
“It is going to be an intensely awkward, silly, existential, dark, bonkers and ridiculous show! Full o’ plenty of wigs!”
NINE WEEKS
Classically trained tenor and GCN alumnus Seán Kennedy is also in the process of developing a new show called NINE WEEKS.
NINE WEEKS is a mixed performance piece combining story, tenor vocal, movement and text with choral singers and musical accompaniment on stage. Featuring music composed by Amanda Feery and chorus conducted by Julie Shanley.
It will run for six nights at the Smock Alley Theatre in September 2019.
Although this has hit its funding target, you can find out more about the piece here.
