Amuse Bouche: Nicky And Nickie From The Yarn

amuse

This month we caught up with Nicky Higgins and Nickie Connolly from popular pizza and pintery The Yarn.

Sandwiched between the Woollen Mills and The Grand Social, sits The Yarn. We caught up with restaurant manager Nicky Higgins (left), and bar manager Nickie Connolly for a chat.

1. The gayest thing about The Yarn?

Apart from half our staff, probably our clientele!

2. Your ideal party of five, living or dead?

David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, Robin Williams, Judi Dench and David Attenborough. All for obvious reasons!

3. Your favourite place to eat, other than your own, in Dublin?

There are so many! M&L on Cathedral Street, with its authentic Sichuan food, and the best dumplings in town. Bunsen have perfected the burger, so that’s a once-a-month standard by now. Etto for special occasions and 777 when the drinking is just as important as the eating.??

4. If you weren’t in the food biz what would you be doing?

Blogger/DJ/Graphic Designer y’know, like everyone.

5. What/Who or Where is rocking your world in restaurants right now?

We’re both Dublin 7 dwellers so we’d have to say Two Boys Brew in Phibsborough. A nicely designed space, great coffee, lovely staff and a perfect little brunch menu. Reminds us a lot of the places we’d eat when we lived in Melbourne.

6. What does the future hold for dining?

Sustainability. Restaurants are becoming far more aware of where their produce is coming from and taking measures to keep food waste down to a minimum. This will hopefully lead to a lot more creative, locally sourced dishes and everyone championing good, homegrown Irish produce.

7. Tell us more about The Yarn?

The Yarn is all about quality casual dining. We’re very proud of our pizzas and sell just as many Italian classics, like Capricciosas and Margheritas as we do our own creations (Lasagne or Hot Dog pizza anyone?). Our ever evolving beer list is one of the best in town with an equal mix of Irish and international breweries on show. Our cocktail list is all about flavour combos that work, no tricks or gimmicks, just delicious drinks at fair prices. We’ve a constant rotation of specials so our regulars don’t get bored and pretty sound staff too, even if we do say so ourselves!
