The Emerald Warriors Rugby Football Club (EWRFC) has announced the return of the Queen of the Warriors fundraiser – a fabulous occasion for all lovers of drag and rugby.
The event will be happening in the iconic venue of The George in Dublin’s city centre on April 6 from 4 to 8pm. It comes ahead of the Union Cup 2025, happening in Oslo, Norway, from May 29 to June 1 in celebration of everything rugby and rainbows.

With players trading in their rugby boots for the highest of heels, this night is popular for everyone, sporty or not, as the standard of drag can easily compete with the standard the club has on the field. With 10 of the best drag kings and queens to watch and give your vote to, the top two contestants will have a lip-sync-off to decide the winner at the end of the night.
“This year we will have also have our first ever drag king contestants battling it out for the crown with members of our women+ team, the Azures competing,” said Emerald Warriors President, Richie Fagan, according to Dublin Live.
Like a lot of fundraisers, there will additionally be a raffle taking place during the event. These prizes range from nights away to gig tickets, so spending a few quid to have your name in the honey pot will surely be worth it.
Fagan added, “Last year was a sellout event, but this year we’ve an ambitious target of €25,000 to support our club competing at The Union Cup. This is Europe’s largest inclusive rugby tournament promoting diversity and equality in sports at a time when representation is under fire. The Union Cup is expected to see over 45 participating teams from 10 countries and around 1,400 players travel to Oslo Norway to compete.
“Four teams will represent the Emerald Warriors in Oslo, with three men+ teams and our women+ team. With over 130 people travelling for the tournament, 29 May to 1 June, our club will be one of the largest contingents in attendance.”
Tickets for the Emerald Warrior’s fundraiser are only €25, and they come with a free beverage on the night.
