A gay kiss between Christoph Waltz and Alexander Skarsgard was cut from The Legend of Tarzan for being “too clever”.
Speaking in an interview with The Times, director David Yates said that the scene saw Waltz’s villainous Captain Leon Rom kiss an unconscious Tarzan.
Yates said the scene was cut from the final edit of the film after leaving test audiences “perplexed”.
“We pared it back because it was almost too much,” he told The Times. “It was this really odd, odd moment when Christoph kisses him. We loved it at the time, but early test audiences were perplexed by it and in the end it just felt too clever and overworked.”
Yates also revealed that the rauchy sex-scenes between Tarzan and Jane (played by Suicide Squad’s Margot Robbie) were toned down to be more “muted and sensual”.
Since we won’t get to see the Waltz-Skarsgard smooch, here’s another same-sex smacker from Skarsgard’s days in uber-gay True Blood.
