GAZE International LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, in partnership with the Irish Film Institute and with the generous support of LGBT Ireland, is set to mark the 10th anniversary of the Marriage Referendum with a very special preview of Hot Milk and an evening of celebration and reflection. At the event, they will also be announcing their long-awaited programme
Taking place on June 24 during Pride Week, this commemorative event will include the highly anticipated launch of the 2025 GAZE programme, offering a first glimpse into this year’s exceptional line-up of queer cinema from Ireland and beyond.
The GAZE team are also set to show a preview screening of Hot Milk, a bold and evocative adaptation of Deborah Levy’s acclaimed novel. The film stars Emma Mackey, Vicky Krieps, and the incomparable Irish icon Fiona Shaw in a gripping contemporary story of women who love women. Hot Milk is set to explore queer awakening under the sweltering pathetic fallacy of a Spanish summer.

The evening will also feature an emotional return to Making History, Anna Rodgers’ moving short documentary that captures the joy, relief, and significance of that unforgettable day in 2015 when Ireland said Yes to Marriage Equality. Be warned, tissues are strongly advised.
Together, these screenings invite us to honour the past, witness the present, and imagine the future, a celebration not just of legal victories, but of the ongoing beauty, resilience, and brilliance of the LGBTQ+ community.
Founded in 1992 as an underground film club before homosexuality was even legal in Ireland, GAZE has grown into a cornerstone of queer cultural life. Each summer, the festival brings together filmmakers, artists, and audiences at the Light House Cinema and the Irish Film Institute for a powerful, playful, and proudly queer programme.
This year, GAZE will take place from July 31 to August 4, 2025. But first, join GAZE this June to see Hot Milk and enjoy a fantastic evening of cinema, community, and celebration all in the name of the tenth Marriage Referendum anniversary.
