Kristen Stewart reveals she's fully on board with directing Twilight remake

We're not sure our little sapphic hearts can handle this.

Twilight star Kristen Stewart has signalled her interest in coming on board as a director for a reboot of the beloved vampire films.

The actor was just 18 when she shot to fame for portraying Bella Swan, a moody teen who falls in love with the brooding vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). The film franchise was a huge commercial success, spawning three sequels.

While not every critic was kind to Twilight, the movies were a hit with fans, who were quick to pledge their allegiance to Team Edward or Team Jacob. Now, 17 years after the first film debuted, fans are hungry for a reboot, and so is Kristen Stewart.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Stewart was asked if she would be interested in directing a Twilight remake, and she told the news outlet she would definitely be on board.

Stewart first responded by praising the films’ directors – Catherine Hardwicke and Chris Weitz – for putting their own unique stamp on their adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s novels.

“I love what all of the directors did with the movies… But they were so themselves and weird and squirrely and just so present in that time, and they didn’t really know what they were yet before they blew up,” she said.

“Imagine if we had like a huge budget and a bunch of love and support? I would love to readapt. Yeah, sure. I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it. I’m committed.”

After being catapulted onto the mainstream with the Twilight films, Kristen Stewart became a queer fan favourite, appearing in cult films such as Clouds of Sils Maria and Love Lies Bleeding. The actor, who is openly queer, has previously said she sees Twilight as a “gay movie”. In an interview with Variety, she said the film franchise has a “very gothic, gay inclination.”
