A video of a lesbian penguin named Green Bean bringing her nesting partner, Randi, a toy ball has gone viral. The clip is soundtracked by Chappell Roan’s hit ‘The Giver’, a perfect fit for the charming gesture.
In the video, you can see how Green Bean intentionally drops the ball where Randi is lying. She then takes it in her beak and begins playing with it.
@returninghalfherweight @Newport Aquarium We have never been more thankful for a penguin than we were for Green Bean 💚🥹
The clip already has 129.6K likes and 353 comments at the time of writing, some of them being answered by Samm (@returninghalfherweight), the original poster.
User Hannah Bailey asked: “Were they given an egg to hatch?” To which Samm replied: “They’re given ‘dummy eggs’ because this aquarium isn’t a breeding facility, so they just get these cute little plaster eggs and they treat them like real ones and go thru their hatching cycles.”
Even a worker from Newport Aquarium commented: “As an employee (of the Newport Aquarium), they are very much in love!!! thank you for sharing this.”
The rest of the comments section is filled with tender and heart-warming messages such as: “This is the best thing I’ll see all day.”
Another user shared their excitement by saying: “You’re telling me there have been lesbian penguins at my local aquarium this WHOLE TIME???”
But Green Bean was already well-known. The penguin is famous for gifting Billie Joe Armstrong, Green Day’s frontman, with one of her paintings.
She has developed her talent thanks to one of Newport Aquarium’s activities, which allows penguins to run through paint and over paper, creating artwork and providing them mental stimulation.
Our #penguin Green Bean is a #GreenDay fan. She painted this for @GreenDay @BJAofficial 💚🐧 Visit this weekend before @riverbendpnc! pic.twitter.com/L3iF1jQKaK
